What must I do to obtain eternal life? Prayer of Salvation

Prayer in Apologetics2 Prayer of Salvation

Matthew 19:16-22, What must I do to obtain eternal life?

by Matt Slick

Matt. 19:16-22, “And behold, one came to Him and said, “Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?” 17 And He said to him, “Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.” 18 He said to Him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, “You shall not commit murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; 19 Honor your father and mother; and You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 20 The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept; what am I still lacking?” 21 Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” 22 But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieved; for he was one who owned much property.”  (The parallel passage is found in Mark 10:17-22 and Luke 18:18-23, listed at end of article).

This section of Scripture is important because Roman Catholics often use it to support their view that keeping the law of God is a necessary part of maintaining their right standing with God so they can be saved on the Day of Judgment.  Unfortunately, they will use verses like this and ignore others that teach we are justified by faith apart from the works of the law (Romans 3:28).  Let’s take a look.

The person was asking what good works he must do to inherit eternal life (v. 16).  He believed that his salvation was dependent upon his faith in God and his works of the Law.  Jesus answered him according to his beliefs and quoted the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17) and Lev. 19:18 (Love your neighbor as yourself).  Notice that Jesus called Lev. 19:18 a commandment equal to the Ten Commandments.  The man boasted that he was keeping all these laws.  Was he?  As is typical with us all, we like to think we are doing well before God when in reality we aren’t.  Jesus showed the man (and us) that he was failing to keep the Law (don’t judge by your own standard, judge by God’s).  Jesus told the man to sell his possessions and give it to the poor (i.e., love your neighbor as yourself) and then follow Him.  The man failed to do this (v. 22).  Jesus knew he wasn’t keeping the Law and showed the man his failure.  His faith and works of the Law could not save him because he could not keep it.  Don’t be like the boastful man who is good in his own eyes and estimation of keeping the Law.

So, for all who want to do good works to obtain eternal life, they are obligated to keep the Law.  But no one can, and that is the point.  No one can.  This is why James teaches in James 2:10, “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.”  Paul says in Gal. 3:10, “For as many as are of the works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all things written in the book of the law, to perform them.’”  This further explains why we have Paul teaching us in Romans 3:28 that we are “justified by faith apart from the works of the Law” (including works done in love) because no one is able to keep the law perfectly as James 2:10 and Gal. 3:10 require.  Therefore, Matt. 19:16-22 isn’t teaching that faith and good works save us.  Instead, it is teaching that if you want to be justified by faith and works (even works of love), you must keep the Law perfectly.  You can’t.  Therefore, the Law condemns you.

What is the solution?

The solution to the problem of the law is to trust in Jesus by faith alone–not by faith in your works.  The gospel message is that Jesus Christ, who is God in flesh (John 1:1, 14; Colossians 2:9), fulfilled the law perfectly and never sinned (1 Peter 2:22).  He fulfilled the Old Testament requirements of being a proper sacrifice for our sins (Lev. 17:11; Deut. 17:1; John 19:36).  Jesus did everything that is necessary when he fulfilled the Law. Therefore, we are justified without the works of the law (Rom. 3:28) and must put our faith and trust in what Christ did (Rom. 4:5; 5:1).

Parallel Verses

  • Mark 10:17-22, “And as He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and began asking Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 18 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. 19 “You know the commandments, ‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’” 20 And he said to Him, “Teacher, I have kept all these things from my youth up.” 21 And looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” 22 But at these words his face fell, and he went away grieved, for he was one who owned much property.”
  • Luke 18:18-23, “And a certain ruler questioned Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 19 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. 20 “You know the commandments, ‘Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.’” 21 And he said, “All these things I have kept from my youth.” 22 And when Jesus heard this, He said to him, “One thing you still lack; sell all that you possess, and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” 23 But when he had heard these things, he became very sad; for he was extremely rich.”

Personal Prayer of Salvation

Almighty God,

I come before You in the name of Jesus Christ.

Jesus I believe You are the Son of God and the only way to God. That You died on the Cross for my Sins and rose again from the dead. I confess that my life has been sinful separated from You ( Rom 3:23 ). Forgive my sins. Jesus I believe You shed Your precious Blood on the Cross for my justification. I thank You for Loving me.

Jesus I turn to You. Heal my body and soul. Heal my body, …heal my life. Come into my heart. Fill my soul. Change me. Mold me. Use me. Heal me. Deliver me. Transform my life and never let me be the same again. Cleanse me with your Holy blood and make me Whole.

Jesus – in You I have the Eternal life. And this is Eternal Life, that I may know You, the only True God and Jesus Christ whom You have sent ( John 17:1-5 ). Let me know You deeply through Holy Spirit Father. Reveal Your Will to me according to my calling.

Heavenly Father fill me with the Holy Spirit and Baptize me with the Holy Ghost and Fire. That I may have part of the First Resurrection ( Rev 20:5-6). I receive Your Spirit and the Spiritual Gifts as Holy Spirit gives me according to His Will. I desire for Spiritual Gifts.

Jesus. Give me a new mind and new heart and a new spirit. Transform my life as I surrender to Your Divine Calling. I surrender to Your will. I surrender to receive the Power!

Jesus is Alive and hears my prayer right now!

I give myself fully to You Jesus. I give myself fully to You Holy Spirit.
I receive Your Power!
I receive Your Anointing!
I receive the Anointing of the Holy Ghost right now!

The presence of God is over my life!

And now I proclaim : “God Almighty is my Father. Jesus Christ is my Saviour. Holy Spirit is my Comforter ( John 16:7-15 ). I am Born Again of the water and of the Spirit ( John 3:5-6 ). I have inherited an Eternal Life. I am now part of the Body of Christ ( Rom 12:5 ).”

In Jesus Mighty and Holy name and in the Blood of Everlasting Covenant (Hebrews 13:20-21),

I Pray and give You the Glory,
Amen

Salvation Prayer - Jesus Christ - Salvation Prayer for Loved onesPropehcy Bible Christianity Jerusalem Prayer Jesus Christ News Breaking News Coming of the Christ Anima Christ Churc (2)

Jesus came to restore things on earth to God’s plan. He talked about this in Matthew 16 where he said, “I will build my church and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it (Matt. 16:18b). When He said, “build,” he used the Greek word for “family.” It’s not the word for “building a structure.” It’s the word for “building a family.” It means “to create a lineage or household or a family”. When Jesus chose that word, He was basically saying, “I’ve come to get the family back!” He was saying, “I’ve come to reverse the fall (of man recorded in Genesis) and, so that Satan won’t have the last word; I have come to redeem. The plan that I established from the beginning will be fulfilled! I’m here to get the family back!”

“This is why I have called you Peter (rock): for on this rock I will build My church. The church will reign triumphant even at the gates of hell.” (Matt. 16:18; VOICE).

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • God wants a family, and the church is His delegated family in the earth today. Let this sink in a minute. Think about everything Jesus has done in the power of the Holy Spirit to begin restoring God’s family to the Father.
  • Agree with Holy Spirit and tell the enemy, “God wants His family back! God’s getting His family back! Every single individual who will receive Him is coming into His Family!”
  • Call out every person by name that you know that needs to come into the family of God.
  • Ask God to use you to be an instrument of reconciliation of future family members with their Holy Father.

A prayer you can pray:

Father, this is a powerful revelation Of course You want Your family back—every single person Satan has tried to keep from you since the fall of man. Jesus, give me fresh revelation as I ponder the tremendous cost You paid to restore us to that heavenly family. This is what the church is in the earth—the restored family. Satan, God wants His family back. He’s going to get every single one who will receive Jesus as Savior back into His family. Lord, I call ____ (name everyone you know who needs to be saved) into Your family. Make me an instrument of reconciliation, Jesus. I want my whole family together with me, fulfilling the heart of the Father to have His family back. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Sinners’s Prayer – Prayer of Salvation – Salvation Prayer – What is Sinners prayer – Sinners Prayer From the Scripture Psalm 51 King David Version

What is the sinner’s prayer?

The sinners prayer is a Christian term for a prayer that is said when someone wants to repent of their sin, ask God for forgiveness and state belief in the life, death, and saving resurrection of Jesus Christ. Romans 10:9-10 says that “if you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”

Millions have come to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ through church services, friends, and family leading them in a salvation prayer.  However it is not words in a prayer that save. Jesus Christ alone has the power to save through faith. J.D Greerer explains it well – “It’s not the prayer that saves; it’s the repentance and faith behind the prayer that lays hold of salvation. My concern is that over-emphasizing the prayer has often (though unintentionally) obscured the primary instruments for laying hold of salvation: repentance and faith.”

The four examples below of the sinners prayer can help you communicate with God that you repent of your sin, accept His forgiveness, and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

The Sinner’s Prayer (by Dr. Ray Pritchard)

Lord Jesus, for too long I’ve kept you out of my life. I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. No longer will I close the door when I hear you knocking. By faith I gratefully receive your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for coming to earth. I believe you are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Thank you for bearing my sins and giving me the gift of eternal life. I believe your words are true. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Savior. Amen.

If you have prayed this prayer in sincere faith, you may want to put your initials by the prayer along with today’s date as a reminder that you have come to Christ in faith, trusting him as your Lord and Savior.

Sinner’s Prayer From Scripture – (Psalm 51, King David)

“Have mercy on me, O God,
according to Your unfailing love;
according to Your great compassion
blot out my transgressions.
Wash away all my iniquity
and cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is always before me.
Against You, You only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in Your sight,
so that You are proved right when You speak
and justified when You judge.
Surely I have been a sinner from birth,
sinful from the time my mother conceived me…
Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean;
wash me and I will be whiter than snow…
Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me from Your presence
or take Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.
Then will I teach transgressors Your ways,
and sinners will turn back to You.

The Sinners Prayer (by John Barnett)

The following prayer expresses the desire to transfer trust to Christ alone for eternal salvation. If its words speak of your own heart’s desire, praying them can be the link that will connect you to God.

Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and there is nothing that I can do to save myself. I confess my complete helplessness to forgive my own sin or to work my way to heaven. At this moment I trust Christ alone as the One who bore my sin when He died on the cross. I believe that He did all that will ever be necessary for me to stand in your holy presence. I thank you that Christ was raised from the dead as a guarantee of my own resurrection. As best as I can, I now transfer my trust to Him. I am grateful that He has promised to receive me despite my many sins and failures. Father, I take you at your word. I thank you that I can face death now that you are my Savior. Thank you for the assurance that you will walk with me through the deep valley. Thank you for hearing this prayer. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

How to Know I’m Really Saved? – Salvation through Jesus Christ

How do I know that Christ is in my life?Did you receive Christ into your life according to His promise in Revelation 3:20? “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”Knowing Jesus Christ is the most exciting relationship you can have. It is the beginning of a life of adventure with an all-loving, all-powerful God. If you have asked Christ to come into your life, you can be sure that your relationship with God is secure. As a result of Christ’s death on the cross, the only sufficient provision for a relationship with God, you have been completely forgiven and accepted by Him.There are many exciting things that are true in your relationship with Christ. Understanding these truths will help you build a firm foundation on which to grow.

My feelings about God keep changing

1. Feelings can be unreliable

You might have expectations about how you should feel after placing your trust in Christ. While feelings are important, they are unreliable indicators of your sincerity or the trustworthiness of God’s promise. Our feelings change easily, but God’s Word and His character remain constant. This illustration shows the relationship between fact (God and His Word), faith (our trust in God and His Word) and our feelings.

  • Fact – this chair is strong enough to support you.
  • Faith – You believe this chair will support you, so you sit in it.
  • Feeling- You may or may not feel comfortable in this chair, but it continues to support you.

The moment you received Christ by faith, as an act of your will, many things happened, including the following:

  1. Christ came into your life – Revelation 3:20, Colossians 1:27
  2. Your sins were forgiven – Colossians 1:14
  3. You became a child of God – John 1:12
  4. You received eternal life – John 5:24
  5. You began the great adventure for which God created you – John 10:10, 2 Corinthians 5:17, 1 Thessalonians 5:18

2. Dealing with doubts

Even though feelings are important, your relationship with Christ is based on facts, not on feelings that can change daily. Doubts, questions and varying emotions are common parts of everyone’s life, but they are very unreliable gauges of anyone’s relationship with Christ. The Christian lives by faith in the trustworthiness of God and His Word.

But what if you don’t feel like a Christian tomorrow? Place your faith in the faithfulness of God Himself and the trustworthiness of His Word. The more you learn, the more you will be able to answer any doubts with solid facts. Your feelings will begin to respond to the truth of God’s Word and not to your circumstances.

Since you have trusted in Christ’s payment for your sin, understood the basis of your relationship with God and have learned five truths about your relationship, you can be confident in your relationship with Christ.

Spiritual Hunger for God

There is hunger placed inside of us that is never satisfied. We call it thirst and hunger for material things, ambition and success in work and relationships. But if we grow the things do not satisfy us any more. We can read all the philosophers on the subject of meaning of life and afterwards. But the hunger remains. This is a hunger for relationship. Relationship with God and Jesus. Jesus is the way for us in life. Jesus is the Truth as we experience relationship with Him. And He is Life.

Sin is the first thing that separates you from God.

Do you know your Sins have been forgiven by Jesus?

Bible declares that All men are sinners

All men have sinned and come short of the glory of God. If we say that we have no Sin, we deceive ourselves. Jesus came in flesh into this world for you can have through His death and resurrection total freedom from Sin. Jesus shed His precious Blood for your justification. If you pray your knowledge of God is released. Because you shall receive the Holy Spirit that reveals God to you.

Jesus shed His Holy Blood for you to have the Promice of God – The Eternal Life. Jesus is the Son of God and through Him we have access to God, because Jesus is the only way to Heaven and the only way to God.

Do you know that Divine Exchange happened on the Cross on the moment Jesus died on the Cross?

Jesus was punished for we can be forgiven. Our Sin was on Jesus for we shall receive healing. Jesus was made Sin for we shall receive righteousness. Jesus tasted death for us that we shall see the life and Eternal life. Jesus was made a curse for we may shall receive the Blessing of Abraham. Jesus became poor for we shall be rich. And He took our shame that we shall see the Glory. All accomplished on the cross for You.

If you give Jesus your life. You shall receive Eternal Life. And by giving yourself fully. With your whole being. If you do this.He will start to use you for the Glory of God

Do you know what is burning in the God’s Heart Today?

Salvation by Grace, not of human merit and works.

Mercy and Grace are the Love and Compassion of God towards us. In our trespasses God Love you so much that he sent His Son into this world to die on the Cross. And finish the work for what He came into the world – Save the humanity. Through Him the Grace and Truth came into the world. Jesus is Grace and Truth and the Salvation is possible only by Faith in Jesus. You are burning in the God’s Heart today to receive Jesus or renew your relationship with Him. Receive His Love, His Grace and His Holy Spirit. That is Real Salvation.

Salvation through Jesus – Believe in Jesus

If you believe in Jesus you have inheritance in heaven and you receive God’s Promise – The Eternal Life. Jesus is a door to Eternal Life without Him you perish forever. Jesus Himself said „I am the Resurrection and Life whosoever believeth in Me shall never taste death“. Please listen carefully: That is your way to Eternal Life: Faith in Jesus. Just Believe and pray.

Enter the Prayer of Salvation with your heart.
