From time-to-time God’s children become so bogged down with the endless list of demands our life brings forward. The Lord understands your frustrations and sees firsthand how much work you’re putting in each day. He also advised us to not to worry about tomorrow, as it would take care of itself (Matthew 6:34).”

Matthew 6:33-34 are lines to memorize and revisit when you decide it’s necessary to request a prayer for financial help from God. Our Lord came face to face with so many challenges during his life – and at times he wasn’t presented with the most appealable odds. Yet, the Lord made his resources work and did his best to make sure those around him also had a livable quality of life. Before you say a prayer for financial help, reevaluate your situation and ask yourself some very important questions. Can you wake up tomorrow and survive without the money you are asking for? Will you go hungry if you do not have the financial help you’re praying to the Lord for? Will your family be in a state of destitution without these funds? 7 Keys To Praying In A Financial Miracle

7 Keys To Praying In A Financial Miracle

Need a financial miracle?  The wrong place to look for answers and direction is Google Search.

I did a search on “how to pray for financial miracles.”

The first reference was an ad offering me a miracle prayer cloth.

I believe in prayer cloths. . .I have given them away in times past and may even do so again because Paul gave them away in the book of Acts when the anointing was strong.  However, I don’t think a prayer cloth is the first key to your miracle.

The second reference began by saying:

“Dear Lord, we pray for a favor that financial miracles may come our way the soonest. We don’t ask for more than what we need Lord.

We just need the right amount we need to clear all our debts as well as my husband’s. Nothing more than that Lord.”

Ok, I’m good with the prayer cloth. . .but let me tell you I’m going to ask for more than what I need. . .because there’s a world that needs my help as well.  It’s not just about me and mine.

Anyone who would limit or restrict God’s blessing flow needs a check-up from the neck-up. . .and a better understanding of the Word.

Let’s establish some basic facts.

First, our God is a God of miracles.

Second, make sure the windows of heaven are open over your life.

Third, He hears and answers your prayers because He promised He would.

Fourth, His best is not about us living from miracle to miracle.

Fifth, if you doubt your miracle manifestation . . .you will do without it.

Sixth, make it a part of your daily confession.

Seventh, stop doing stupid things financially and begin using His wisdom.

I could very easily teach those seven points. . .they’re all good. . .but they’re not the ones God gave me when I started this writing today.

1.         Repent Of All Unrighteousness and Foolishness.

1 John 1:9 in the Amplified Bible says:

“If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].” 

I rejoice that He will “cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Now that’s something so profound that we should shout enough to get up and run around the room.  Freedom from sin’s hold is huge.

To be unrighteous. . .we have first been righteous.  If we were still sinners, then we would not have been righteous.  So at some point it means we were born again.

Sadly, there are too many folks who’ve attended church, sang songs of praise and love the Lord only to backslide.   Generally, people who backslide are not disappointed with God but with themselves or another “saint” in the church.  Unfortunately, sometimes it’s the pastor who has fallen into sin.

People tend to look toward and often idolize the messenger instead of the One in the message.  But alas, this line of thinking should be in a teaching of its own.

It’s interesting that the verse equates unrighteousness with “everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought and action.”

So putting it that way, we could say . . . if we are not conforming to the purpose, thought-process and actions of the Lord and His Word, then we’re guilty of unrighteousness.  Are we teachable? Do we daily desire to do what He wants instead of what we want?

What is God purpose for your life?

If you’re not dreaming it. . .living it. . .manifesting it. . .then are you guilty of unrighteousness?  That’s an interesting thought, isn’t it?

Have you sought His presence to determine His plans for you?

Exodus 9:16 in the Amplified Bible says:

“But for this very purpose have I let you live, that I might show you My power, and that My name may be declared throughout all the earth.”

One more scripture. . .Romans 9:17 says:

“For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.”

Repenting of unrighteousness is more than confessing the obvious sins. . .it’s not flowing in His purpose for our lives. . .not thinking as He would have us think. . .and not doing what He would have us do.  When He shows us something we need to change, are we willing to change it to please Him?

Our righteousness. . .brings glory and honor to Him.

Bottom line. . .if you’re praying for a financial miracle. . .repent of everything that you know holds you back.

2.         Recognize and Praise Him As A Miracle Working God.

If you need a financial miracle. . .you should be praising God for what He’s already done in your life.

Sadly, when under economic attack. . .many believers shift into panic instead of praise mode.  Feeling desperate . . .depressed and helpless. 

If you’ve felt that way, Psalm 34:2 offers some great advice for you:

 “. . .let all who are helpless take heart.”

To be helpless is to be without help.  If you feel helpless. . .that’s the perfect time to begin rejoicing and praising God for His faithful promises..

How do you take heart in the middle of a storm. . .by praising Him in all things.

The Message Bible translation of Psalm 34:2 says:

“I live and breathe God; if things aren’t going well, hear this and be happy.”

In the midst of your financial storm. . .don’t feel helpless. . .be happy as you Praise Him.

Psalm 34:3 says:

“O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.”

No matter what. . .He is so worthy of all our praise. . .that phrase is so much more than song lyrics . . .it should be our lifestyle.

Actually, Psalm 34 is full of encouraging scriptures to praise God for and claim in the midst of any battle:

4 I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

5 They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.

6 This poor man cried, and the Lordheard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

7 The angel of the Lordencampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

15 The eyes of the Lordare upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.

17 The righteous cry, and the Lordheareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lorddelivereth him out of them all.

22 The Lordredeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

Psalm 35:28 in the Amplified Bible offers some pretty good advice:

“And my tongue shall talk of Your righteousness, rightness, and justice, and of [my reasons for] Your praise all the day long.”

Without question, if you want to feel the presence of the Lord fast, then start praising Him.  There is a lot to praise Him for.

Praising Him for what you’ve got. . .regardless of how meager it may seem. . .and what He’s going to do. . .is a giant step towards your financial miracle.

3.         You Gotta Know He Doesn’t Play Favorites—You are a favorite.

God has given me a new look at a well-known and often quoted scripture.

Acts 10:34 says:

“Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons.”

The New International Version says:

“Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism.”

I have read Acts 10:34 in thirteen different translations and I have not seen any sort of asterisk or footnote indicating that this scripture doesn’t apply to everybody on planet earth.

Having said all that. . .let me give you a different perspective.

Acts 10:34 in the Message Bible says:

“Peter fairly exploded with his good news: “It’s God’s own truth, nothing could be plainer: God plays no favorites! It makes no difference who you are or where you’re from—if you want God and are ready to do as he says, the door is open.”

God plays no favorites. . .that is absolute. . .but you can determine whether or not He does for you.  Let’s examine this verse a little closer.

“. . .God plays no favorites! It makes no difference who you are or where you’re from. . .”

This phrase confirms the fact that God doesn’t play favorites and is not a respecter of persons.   However, let’s look at the remainder of the verse.

“. . .if you want God and are ready to do as he says, the door is open.”

If you want God. . .in other words, if you ask. . .if you seek. . .if you knock. . .if you obey . . . you will find He is no respecter of persons.

Let’s say it another way. . .God respects and honors those whose hearts are open to obey His word.  I didn’t say ‘be perfect for Him.’  I said if we even desire to obey Him.

Think about it.

4.         Ask With Specificity

Let me ask you several questions.

Do you want a raise?  How much?  When do you want the raise to become effective?

When do you plan to pay off your first debt?  How will you do it?  What’s your plan?  When and how will you pay off your second debt?

How much weight do you want to release?  I don’t like the phrase “lose weight” because when you lose something …your natural reaction is to find it.  When will you start exercising?  What days of the week?  What exercises?  How long will your exercise program last each day?

Our God is a God of specificity which is why you must be specific in your miracle prayer request.

If you don’t have specific goals you are just ‘wishing and a hoping.’  Specificity greatly increases the likelihood of greater results.

God didn’t just tell Noah to go out and build a boat . . .He was specific.

Genesis 6:14-16 in the New King James Version says:

“Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch.

15 And this is how you shall make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits.

16 You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks.”

God didn’t just tell Moses He was going to feed the children of Israel. . .He was specific.

Exodus 16:8 in the New Living Translation says:

“Then Moses added, “The Lord will give you meat to eat in the evening and bread to satisfy you in the morning, for he has heard all your complaints against him. What have we done? Yes, your complaints are against the Lord, not against us.”

Exodus 16:16 in the New Living Translation says:

“These are the Lord’s instructions: Each household should gather as much as it needs. Pick up two quarts for each person in your tent.”

I could give you numerous other scriptures about God’s desire for specificity in what we desire in our future and yes, even in our miracle.

Habakkuk 2:2 says:

“And the Lord… said, Write the vision, and make it plain… that he may run that readeth it.  For the vision . . . shall speak …it will surely come, it will not tarry.”

The Contemporary English Version of Habakkuk 2:2 says:

“Then the LORD told me:  ‘I will give you my message in the form of a vision.  Write it clearly enough to be read at a glance.’”

Here’s just one more . . . from the New Testament just to show you that God hasn’t changed His mind on how we approach Him.  Philippians 3:6 in the Amplified Version of the Bible says:

“Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.”

Be specific.

5.         Seek Inside Information From A Source That’s Always Right

There is a phrase that I want you to repeat over and over again.

Say out loud.

“God is my closest advisor, friend and miracle provider.  He always leads me in the way that I should go.  He always gives me the best advice.  He’s never wrong.  He’s always right on time with what I need.”

James 4:2 in the New Living Translation says:

“Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.” 

God is offering you inside information about your future.

The enemy of your soul. . .the nemesis of your success. . .the would-be destroyer of your destiny can try to keep you from getting the inside information that you need to make the right decisions.   But the answers are right there and available to you if you choose to read them and put them to work in your life.

James 1:5 in the New Living Translation says:

“If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it.” 

There is something quite comforting in knowing you have immediate and unlimited access to inside information on miracle manifestation and every other aspect of your life.

Plus the fact that God’s information is always right. . .and right on time.

Psalm 119:137-138 in the ERV (Easy to Read Version) says:

“Lord, you do what is right,  and your decisions are fair.  The rules you have given us are right.  We can trust them completely.”

God gives you inside information and . . .you can trust it completely.

6.         Identify, Knock Out and Remove All Obstacles, Hindrances, Roadblocks and Doubt.

What’s the main thing that’s keeping you from miracle manifestation?

The words:  obstacles, hindrances and roadblocks are not in the King James Version of the Bible.  But they are stumbling blocks to your miracle manifestation.

Obstacles. . .are things that block or hinder progress. . . they are things you have to overcome.

Booker T. Washington said:

“Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome.”

When it comes to overcoming obstacles remember the words Henry Ford once said:

“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.”

Hindrances. . .are things or perhaps people who are hindering you from doing what you know to do because you’ve take your eyes off your Source and them on people or circumstances.

Harriet Beecher Stowe, the author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin said:

“The real democratic American idea is, not that every man shall be on a level with every other man, but that every man shall have liberty to be what God made him, without hindrance.”

A roadblock. . .is an obstruction designed to send people through unknown territory and delay their progress.

Michael Jordan, the greatest basketball player to every draw a breath in my opinion, said;

“If you’re trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I’ve had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.”

Doubt. . .will make you question. . .what it is you really believe.

If you make an honest assessment of where you are in every area of your life. . .you would no doubt be able to identify what it is that’s holding you back.

The best way to overcome obstacles, hindrances and roadblocks is a direct frontal assault.

Here’s where your inside information is also of enormous benefit.

Proverbs 3:26 in the Amplified Bible says:

“For the Lord shall be your confidence, firm and strong, and shall keep your foot from being caught [in a trap or some hidden danger].”        

7.         Give God Your Seed with Expectation

Genesis 8:22 says:

“While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”

There is seedtime and harvest. . .sowing and reaping. . .as long as the earth remains.   

If you don’t sow with an expectation of a harvest. . .you’re wasting your time.

Too many timesI’ve heard people say, “Well, I tried tithing and it didn’t work for me.  I gave offerings but nothing happened.  I never received a harvest.  This giving stuff just doesn’t work for me.”

When people make statements about how they tried tithing and it didn’t work for them;  the truth is that God was trying them to see if they would become faithful stewards or if they’d quit.

God never gave up on them; they just gave up on Him.  A person’s expectations must be rooted in the Word of God . . .not in circumstances around them.

Galatians 6:7 in the Amplified Bible says:

“Do not be deceived and deluded and misled; God will not allow Himself to be sneered at (scorned, disdained, or mocked by mere pretensions or professions, or by His precepts being set aside.) [He inevitably deludes himself who attempts to delude God.] For whatever a man sows, that and that only is what he will reap.”

There is confidence in knowing that whatever you sow. . .you will reap.

If you don’t send a ship out … you can’t expect one to come back.

If you leave your seed in the barn … it will never produce a crop in the field.

But don’t just send or plant… and forget it … be looking for the harvest.

Expectation brings manifestation and His rewards.

Proverbs 24:14 in the Amplified Bible says:

“So shall you know skillful and godly Wisdom to be thus to your life; if you find it, then shall there be a future and a reward, and your hope and expectation shall not be cut off.”

A final thought. . .we know when we pray. . .He not only listens. . .He answers our prayers.  When we know we are lined up with the Word. . .we have every scriptural right to expect miracle manifestation in our lives. 

Therefore, we must stand strong and expectant and not give in until we see the harvest.

  6. Find a local church where you can worship God and Grow.
  7. Continue in what you have received from beginning from Jesus by Grace

Prayer: Program your mind for Victory…not Defeat!

You oh Lord JESUS, are exalted high above the earth! I lift Your name on high, for You are awesome. I stand in complete submission to Your Will. Heavenly Father, my hope, joy, strength and confidence comes from You.

So today I thank You for the price Jesus paid for me. I know that my victory depends on knowing that, yet at times, I am unable to program my mind for victory.

3 John 1:2 – Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers.

John 10:10 – The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.

Feeling Defeated

Occasionally, I feel so burdened by what life throws at me. Holy Spirit, when I feel defeated, and when the reality of my earthly walk becomes difficult, I pray for guidance as I program my mind for victory, not defeat.

Lord, help me when I falter, to believe that I walk in faith and in complete obedience to You. Lord, I want to always remember that when I read and meditate on Your Word, it is absorbed into my heart. I will believe in all that You have predestined for me.

And now I stand on the promises You have declared, graciously receiving them and speaking them into my life. I pray that the Holy Spirit will restore and revive me completely.

“Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the victor’s crown, the life God has promised to those who love him.” – James 1:12

Engaging in the Battle

We need tools in spiritual warfare as well. It has been the underlying purpose of this book to provide practical, usable information and insight into the waging of a winning warfare.

The world, the flesh, and the devil will be continuously defeated if we use the weapons of our warfare. The Lord has provided all the tools we need. The Lord Jesus Christ has provided all of our victory. He used the same tools He has provided us in winning the battle. His victory is our victory.

It remains our responsibility to use these weapons so graciously provided in His grace. Every time you use them you’ll thank God for the tools of victory He has provided. Just as I think with fond remembrance of the man who gave me the tool box when I use my carpenter’s tools, so your heart will reach out in an ever deepening gratitude to your Lord.

In previous chapters, importance of doctrinal truth and doctrinal praying was intended to be lifted high. Doctrine, God’s unchanging truth, is mighty in defeating our enemies. This truth must get deep into our souls. This can only come about as we gain understanding of the Holy Word of God and then use that Word aggressively in our lives.

With the permission and approval of Dr. Victor Matthews, professor of theology at the Grand Rapids Baptist Bible College and Seminary, I include here some very fine helps in keeping doctrinal truth in the forefront of your warfare.

“The Daily Affirmation of Faith” was written by Dr. Matthews to provide a concise, clear statement of the truth of the Word of God as it applies to our victory. I commend this affirmation for daily reading aloud on the part of those who are experiencing intense warfare. It will do much to build spiritual foundation into your soul. It will keep the ground of your victory aggressively in action against your enemies. Study the texts of Scripture for your own enlightenment and edification.

The Daily Affirmation of Faith

“Today I deliberately choose to submit myself fully to God as He has made Himself known to me through the Holy Scripture which I honestly accept as the only inspired, infallible, authoritative standard for all life and practice. In this day I will not judge God, His work, myself, or others on the basis of feelings or circumstances.

  1. I recognize by faith that the triune God is worthy of all honor, praise, and worship as the Creator, Sustainer, and End of all things. I confess that God, as my Creator, made me for Himself. In this day I therefore choose to live for Him (Rev 5:9,10; Is 43:1,7,21; Rev 4:11).

  2. I recognize by faith that God loved me and chose me in Jesus Christ before time began (Eph 1:1-7).

  3. I recognize by faith that God has proven His love to me in sending His Son to die in my place, in whom every provision has already been made for my past, present, and future needs through His representative work, and that I have been quickened, raised, seated with Jesus Christ in the heavenlies, and anointed with the Holy Spirit (Ro 5:6-11; 8:28; Phil 1:6; 4:6,7,13,19; Eph 1:3; 2:5,6; Ac 2:1-4,33).

  4. I recognize by faith that God has accepted me, since I have received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior (Jn 1:12; Eph 1:6); that He has forgiven me (Eph 1:7); adopted me into His family, assuming every responsibility for me (Jn 17:11,17; Eph 1:5; Phil 1:6); given me eternal life (Jn 3:36; I Jn 5:9-13); applied the perfect righteousness of Christ to me so that I am now justified (Ro 5:1; 8:3,4; 10:4); made me complete in Christ (Col 2:10); and offers Himself to me as my daily sufficiency through prayer and the decisions of faith (I Co 1:30; Col 1:27; Gal 2:20; Jn 14:13,14; Mt 21:22; Ro 6:1-19; Heb 4:1-3,11).

  5. I recognize by faith that the Holy Spirit has baptized me into the Body of Christ (I Co 12:13); sealed me (Eph 1:13,14); anointed me for life and service (Ac 1:8; Jn 7:37-39); seeks to lead me into a deeper walk with Jesus Christ (Jn 14:16-18; 15:26,27; 16:13-15; Ro 8:11-16); and to fill my life with Himself (Eph 5:18).

  6. I recognize by faith that only God can deal with sin and only God can produce holiness of life. I confess that in my salvation my part was only to receive Him and that He dealt with my sin and saved me. Now I confess that in order to live a holy life, I can only surrender to His will and receive Him as my sanctification; trusting Him to do whatever may be necessary in my life, without and within, so I may be enabled to live today in purity, freedom, rest and power for His glory (Jn 1:12; I Co 1:30; II Co 9:8; Gal 2:20; Heb 4:9; I Jn 5:4; Jude 24).

Having confessed that God is worthy of all praise, that the Scriptures are the only authoritative standard, that only God can deal with sin and produce holiness of life, I again recognize my total dependence upon Him and submission to Him. I accept the truth that praying in faith is absolutely necessary for the realization of the will and grace of God in my daily life.

Recognizing that faith is a total response to God by which the daily provisions the Lord has furnished in Himself are appropriated, I therefore make the following decisions of faith:

  1. For this day (Heb 3:6,13,15; 4:7) I make the decision of faith to surrender wholly to the authority of God as He has revealed Himself in the Scripture to obey Him. I confess my sin, face the sinful reality of my old nature, and deliberately choose to walk in the light, in step with Christ, throughout the hours of this day (Ro 6:16-20; Phil 2:12,13; I Jn 1:7,9).

  2. For this day I make the decision of faith to surrender wholly to the authority of God as revealed in the Scripture–to believe Him. I accept only His Word as final authority. I now believe that since I have confessed my sin He has forgiven and cleansed me (I Jn 1:9). I accept at full value His Word of promise to be my sufficiency and rest, and will conduct myself accordingly (Ex 33:1; I Co 1:30; II Co 9:8; Phil 4:19).

  3. For this day I make the decision of faith to recognize that God has made every provision so that I may fulfill His will and calling. Therefore, I will not make any excuse for my sin and failure (I Th 5:24).

  4. For this day I make the decision of faith deliberately to receive from God that provision which He has made for me. I renounce all self-effort to live the Christian life and to perform God’s service; renounce all sinful praying which asks God to change circumstances and people so that I may be more spiritual; renounce all drawing back from the work of the Holy Spirit within and the call of God without; and renounce all nonbiblical motives, goals, and activities which serve my sinful pride.

— I now sincerely receive Jesus Christ as my sanctification, particularly as my cleansing from the old nature, and ask the Holy Spirit to apply to me the work of Christ accomplished for me in the crucifixion. In cooperation with and dependence upon Him, I obey the command to “put off the old man” (Ro 6:1-14; I Co 1:30; Gal 6:14; Eph 4:22).

— I now sincerely receive Jesus Christ as my sanctification, particularly as my enablement moment by moment to live above sin, and ask the Holy Spirit to apply to me the work of the resurrection so that I may walk in newness of life. I confess that only God can deal with my sin and only God can produce holiness and the fruit of the Spirit in my life. In cooperation with and dependence upon Him, I obey the command to “put on the new man” (Ro 6:1-4; Eph 4:24).

— I now sincerely receive Jesus Christ as my deliverance from Satan and take my position with Him in the heavenlies, asking the Holy Spirit to apply to me the work of the ascension. In His Name I submit myself to God and stand against all of Satan’s influence and subtlety. In cooperation with and dependence upon God, I obey the command to “resist the devil” (Eph 1:20- 23; 2:5; 4:27; 6:10-18; Col 1:13; Ja 4:7; I Pe 3:22; 5:89).

— I now sincerely receive the Holy Spirit as my anointing for every aspect of life and service for today. I fully open my life to Him to fill me afresh in obedience to the command to “be filled with the Holy Spirit” (Eph 5:18; Jn 7:37-39; 14:16,17; 15:26,27; 16:7-15; Ac 1:8).

“Having made this confession and these decisions of faith, I now receive God’s promised rest for this day (Heb 4:1-13). Therefore, I relax in the trust of faith, knowing that in the moment of temptation, trial, or need, the Lord Himself will be there as my strength and sufficiency (I Co 10:13).”

The Warfare Prayer

Another doctrinal tool that has proved of great benefit to me and to many others is the “Warfare Prayer” composed by Dr. Matthews. As a theologian, his unique and thorough way of including sound doctrine in this prayer is most helpful. I would urge anyone facing obvious spiritual warfare to use this prayer daily. It is good to read it aloud as a prayer unto the Lord. Eventually one will be able to incorporate the doctrinal truths expressed into his own prayer life without reading it.

The devil hates this prayer. Usually before working with anyone who has deep demonic affliction, I will request that we read this prayer in unison. Many times the oppressed one can read only with great difficulty. Sometimes sight problems, voice problems, or mind confusion become so intense that the afflicted person can continue only with great effort.

It is the truth of God that Satan cannot resist, and he vigorously fights it being applied against him. Those serious about warfare should daily use a prayer of this type along with other prayer examples shared in this book.


THE WARFARE PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I bow in worship and praise before You. I cover myself with the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ as my protection during this time of prayer. I surrender myself completely and unreservedly in every area of my life to Yourself. I do take a stand against all the workings of Satan that would hinder me in this time of prayer, and I address myself only to the true and living God and refuse any involvement of Satan in my prayer.

[Satan, I command you, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, to leave my presence with all your demons, and I bring the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ between us.]

Heavenly Father, I worship You, and I give You praise. I recognize that You are worthy to receive all glory and honor and praise. I renew my allegiance to You and pray that the blessed Holy Spirit would enable me in this time of prayer.

I am thankful, heavenly Father, that You have loved me from past eternity, that You sent the Lord Jesus Christ into the world to die as my substitute that I would be redeemed. I am thankful that the Lord Jesus Christ came as my representative, and that through Him You have completely forgiven me; You have given me eternal life; You have given me the perfect righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ so I am now justified. I am thankful that in Him You have made me complete, and that You have offered Yourself to me to be my daily help and strength.

Heavenly Father, come and open my eyes that I might see how great You are and how complete Your provision is for this new day. I do, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, take my place with Christ in the heavenlies with all principalities and powers (powers of darkness and wicked spirits) under my feet.

I am thankful that the victory the Lord Jesus Christ won for me on the cross and in His resurrection has been given to me and that I am seated with the Lord Jesus Christ in the heavenlies; therefore, I declare that all principalities and powers and all wicked spirits are subject to me in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I am thankful for the armor You have provided, and I put on the girdle of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the sandals of peace, the helmet of salvation. I lift up the shield of faith against all the fiery darts of the enemy, and take in my hand the sword of the spirit, the Word of God, and use Your Word against all the forces of evil in my life; and I put on this armor and live and pray in complete dependence upon You, blessed Holy Spirit.

I am grateful, heavenly Father, that the Lord Jesus Christ spoiled all principalities and powers and made a show of them openly and triumphed over them in Himself. I claim all that victory for my life today. I reject out of my life all the insinuations, the accusations, and the temptations of Satan.

I affirm that the Word of God is true, and I choose to live today in the light of God’s Word. I choose, heavenly Father, to live in obedience to You and in fellowship with Yourself. Open my eyes and show me the areas of my life that would not please You. Work in my life that there be no ground to give Satan a foothold against me.

Show me any area of weakness. Show me any area of my life that I must deal with so that I would please You. I do in every way today stand for You and the ministry of the Holy Spirit in my life.

By faith and in dependence upon You, I put off the old man and stand into all the victory of the crucifixion where the Lord Jesus Christ provided cleansing from the old nature. I put on the new man and stand into all the victory of the resurrection and the provision He has made for me there to live above sin.

Therefore, in this day, I put off the old nature with its selfishness, and I put on the new nature with its love. I put off the old nature with its fear and I put on the new nature with its courage. I put off the old nature with its weakness and I put on the new nature with its strength. I put off today the old nature with all its deceitful lusts and I put on the new nature with all its righteousness and purity.

I do in every way stand into the victory of the ascension and the glorification of the Son of God where all principalities and powers were made subject to Him, and I claim my place in Christ victorious with Him over all the enemies of my soul. Blessed Holy Spirit, I pray that You would fill me. Come into my life, break down every idol and cast out every foe.

I am thankful, heavenly Father, for the expression of Your will for my daily life as You have shown me in Your Word. I therefore claim all the will of God for today.

I am thankful that You have blessed me with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. I am thankful that You have begotten me unto a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. I am thankful that You have made a provision so that today I can live filled with the Spirit of God with love and joy and self-control in my life. And I recognize that this is Your will for me, and I therefore reject and resist all the endeavors of Satan and of his demons to rob me of the will of God.

I refuse in this day to believe my feelings, and I hold up the shield of faith against all the accusations and against all the insinuations that Satan would put in my mind. I claim the fullness of the will of God for today.

I do, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, completely surrender myself to You, heavenly Father, as a living sacrifice. I choose not to be conformed to this world. I choose to be transformed by the renewing of my mind, and I pray that You would show me Your will and enable me to walk in all the fullness of the will of God today.

I am thankful, heavenly Father, that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, to the casting down of imaginations and every high thing that exalted itself against the knowledge of God, and to bring every thought into obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Therefore in my own life today I tear down the strongholds of Satan, and I smash the plans of Satan that have been formed against me. I tear down the strongholds of Satan against my mind, and I surrender my mind to You, blessed Holy Spirit.

I affirm, heavenly Father, that You have not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. I break and smash the strongholds of Satan formed against my emotions today, and I give my emotions to You. I smash the strongholds of Satan formed against my will today, and I give my will to You, and choose to make the right decisions of faith. I smash the strongholds of Satan formed against my body today, and I give my body to You, recognizing that I am Your temple; and I rejoice in Your mercy and Your goodness.

Heavenly Father, I pray that now through this day You would quicken me; show me the way that Satan is hindering and tempting and lying and counterfeiting and distorting the truth in my life. Enable me to be the kind of person that would please You. Enable me to be aggressive in prayer. Enable me to be aggressive mentally and to think Your thoughts after You, and to give You Your rightful place in my life.

Again, I now cover myself with the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ and pray that You, blessed Holy Spirit, would bring all the work of the crucifixion, all the work of the resurrection, all the work of the glorification, and all the work of Pentecost into my life today. I surrender myself to You.

I refuse to be discouraged. You are the God of all hope. You have proven Your power by resurrecting Jesus Christ from the dead, and I claim in every way Your victory over all satanic forces active in my life, and I reject these forces; and I pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ with thanksgiving. Amen.

Does the state of your finances accelerate your pulse? Does your brain crunch numbers each night long after you’re supposed to be asleep?

In our rapidly inflating and uncertain economy, money matters can drastically elevate our stress. Most of us remember the wide-sweeping mess that hit the workforce in 2008. Millions of people, some nearing retirement age, lost their jobs. Over four million foreclosures soon followed. Though things have improved a great deal since then, over 80 percent of today’s Americans find themselves in debt, some to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

It’s hard to give generously or participate in short term missions when creditors are harassing us. We can’t fully experience the abundant life Christ promised if we’re buried in debt and enslaved to our fluctuating checkbook.

If financial fears dominate your thoughts, be encouraged! Jesus isn’t just the God of our salvation. He’s our Jehovah-Jireh—our provider, guide, and ever-present help, and He longs to lead us into deeper levels of freedom in every area, including our finances. Here are 10 prayers that can help you align your heart, practices, and thus, finances, with God’s perfect will.

1. Lord, help me trust You.

Obedience comes from surrender and surrender rests on trust. We may know, intellectually, that God is all-knowing, all-powerful, and has a good and loving plan for us. But we can lose sight of those truths when creditors come knocking or medical bills flood in. In those moments, our finite, easily distracted minds tend to focus on our problems rather than the God who loves us. The result—increased anxiety and decreased spiritual sensitivity.

The solution is redirecting our thoughts. Asking God to help and then choosing to trust He will. When chaos hits, we can feel as if we’re victims to our circumstances—and our anxiety. But as we draw near to Christ in prayer, His Holy Spirit empowers, emboldens, and soothes, reminding us that He is our Jehovah-Jireh (Genesis 22:14), and will meet all our needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).

2. Lord, change my heart.

Sometimes financial struggles come from unexpected crises, but many times greed, selfishness, and impulsivity are to blame. We live in a consumerism culture that celebrates instant gratification. As a result, we’ve grown accustomed to purchasing whatever we want when we want it. Entitlement, and the undercurrent of discontentment that usually follows, can be difficult to fight. We work hard; why shouldn’t we have that new car, larger home, or luxurious seven-day vacation?

There’s nothing wrong with traveling or enjoying nice things—if our finances permit and our hearts are in tune with Christ. But if we’re allowing our economic status to define or fulfill us, we’ve slipped into idolatry and therefore outside of God’s will; that’s a dangerous place to be, financially or otherwise.

If we want increased intimacy with God and the peace and clarity He offers, we need to ask Him to replace our idolatrous desires with a heart that beats only for Him.

3. Lord, grant me contentment.

I’ve found I need to repeat this prayer often—every time a covetous, discontent thought arises. When our daughter was young, we lived in the Los Angeles suburbs, and I was surrounded by peers with much more money than we had (or at least, who routinely spent more than we did). Initially, we mirrored the practices of our friends and buried ourselves in debt. One Christmas, with maxed out credit cards and a nearly depleted bank account, we were forced to make a choice: apply for more credit or drastically change our habits.

Praise God, by His grace, we chose the latter, and our journey began with learning to be content. For us, this meant buying a used car instead of a newer one, and driving it well past its glamorous stage. For Paul, the apostle who wrote the oft-quoted passage on learning the secret of being content when in plenty or in want, that meant cultivating joy while imprisoned and gratitude for whatever sliver of bread God provided.

That might seem harsh, perhaps even unrealistic, but it’s interesting to note, Paul is also the man who wrote Philippians, the book on joy.

Could it be that contentment paves the way for joy, and in the process, financial freedom?

4. Lord, give me confidence.

I’ve often wondered what my spending would look like if I had no one to impress. If I lived on some remote island without other human contact, would I seriously care what I wore? What make of car I drove, or how well decorated my little hut might appear? Though this line of thinking may seem silly, it illustrates an important premise—many of us spend money we don’t have to impress others. Whether this involves buying a new car to appear more successful than we are, or failing to say no when our friends suggest an expensive activity, this long standing trend has landed many in debt.

The solution—become deeply grounded in who—and whose—we are. Recognizing we’re deeply loved, have a God-ordained purpose, and are valuable because of the price Christ was willing to pay for us helps insulate us from the people-pleasing trap—a path that inevitably leaves us emotionally, if not financially, bankrupt.

Greed kills our relationships with others, our joy and peace, dulls our spiritual ears, and drastically hinders our intimacy with Christ. After all, how can we commune with the God who gave His everything so we could live if we’re walking through that life with fisted hands? Moreover, why would He bless us materially when we’re only going to use our wealth to gratify our desires?

Everything we have belongs to God to be used by Him for His glory. In light of this, consider Jesus’ words in Luke 16: 11-12, “So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?”

We could easily repeat Jesus’ words from Luke sixteen here, beginning with verse 10, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much” (NIV). Everything we do or don’t do both reveals and builds our character, and either reflects Christ or distorts His image.

Most of us probably would never seriously consider tax evasion or fraud but we might be tempted to behave deceptively in other, seemingly less consequential, situations. We may not think taking a handful of paper clips from the office or sending a personal fax or two is a big deal, but when God gave man the Ten Commandments, He didn’t set up a sliding scale on honesty. To the contrary, Scripture says God hates all dishonesty and demands His followers live with the utmost integrity in all matters, including in how we manage our finances.

Creating a workable budget can be challenging. Living according to that budget for more than a few months can feel practically impossible, especially if we are attempting to climb out of debt. Spending habits take time to change, and though the tug to impulse shop might grow easier, I suspect, in our consumerism culture where we’re bombarded with messages to buy-buy-buy, we’ll always find it difficult to choose frugality over momentary pleasures.

Focusing on long-term goals, like buying or paying off a house or saving up for a vacation can help. As can praying for the strength to persevere, even if we find ourselves eating boxed macaroni and cheese more times than we care to count.

When my spending and my income clash, it’s almost always a sign that my priorities have become misaligned. Most likely I’ve begun to value material things above the spiritual. This is especially true when I can find the money to buy those cute shoes in the department store but never seem to have enough to pay my tithe.

Material pleasures aren’t sinful, but if we value accessories more than helping to fund the expansion of God’s kingdom, our appearance has a greater piece of our heart than Christ does. In Matthew 6:24 Jesus told us what happens when we chase after material wealth while attempting to serve Christ. “Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other,” He said. “You cannot serve both God and money.”

That expensive steak dinner that tasted so great in the moment will likely be forgotten by tomorrow. That outfit we absolutely had to have today might land in our local thrift store by the year’s end. And that new car we felt certain would give us such pleasure depreciated by $4,000 or more the moment we drove it off the lot.

But every dollar we scrimp and save and put into savings will continue to work for us year after year. As will the money we invest in retirement or paying off our home. In life and finances the old adage, “pay now or pay later,” holds true. Scripture puts it this way, “A hard worker has plenty of food, but a person who chases fantasies ends up in poverty” (Proverbs 28:19, NLT). Granted, sometimes life hits hard, and financial difficulties hit despite our most diligent efforts, but focusing on where we want to be tomorrow, not simply what would make us happy today, makes economic stability more probable.

5. God, center my thoughts and heart on the things of eternity.

I’ve never been great at self-denial, and honestly, there are times when saving that dollar today so I can enjoy 10 tomorrow doesn’t feel like reason enough—especially when my favorite coffee drink is on the line! Though my heart longs for things of enduring value, I’m easily pulled in by whatever screams the loudest or flashes the brightest. But then Jesus reminds me of my ultimate and most fulfilling purpose—to play a part in His redemptive mission—and suddenly all those items that once captivated me, suddenly fade as eternity shifts into focus.

Because when I’m standing in front of my Savior, and He asks me, “What did you do with the gifts I gave you,” I’d like to be able to say more than simply, “I drank a lot of really great coffee.”

Grant me the patience and tolerance necessary to calm my spirit knowing that you have everything under control. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Patience is a virtue that is required within so many elements of life – finances being one of those main elements. From time-to-time God’s children become so bogged down with the endless list of demands our life brings forward. The Lord understands your frustrations and sees firsthand how much work you’re putting in each day. Chin up friend – ask the Lord to grant you the necessary patience to get through this difficult financial period. While it may seem overwhelming, while you’re in the moment, remember that the Lord will always provide you with the resources you’ll need.

And then there are times when we feel need a financial miracle – car breaks down unexpectedly, death in the family, water heater explodes, or an illness. For those times a prayer that asks the Lord Jesus Christ for a miracle is exactly what is needed.

Jesus Christ, who is your Lord and Savior, understands better than anyone the spontaneity in life – and moreover, how those unexpected times can bring on financial burdens. “Our Lord challenged us in the Gospels not to worry about what we need in terms of the necessities of life such as food and clothing, but rather to “seek first the kingdom of God….and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33). He also advised us to not to worry about tomorrow, as it would take care of itself (Matthew 6:34).”

Matthew 6:33-34 are lines to memorize and revisit when you decide it’s necessary to request a prayer for financial help from God. Our Lord came face to face with so many challenges during his life – and at times he wasn’t presented with the most appealable odds. Yet, the Lord made his resources work and did his best to make sure those around him also had a livable quality of life. Before you say a prayer for financial help, reevaluate your situation and ask yourself some very important questions. Can you wake up tomorrow and survive without the money you are asking for? Will you go hungry if you do not have the financial help you’re praying to the Lord for? Will your family be in a state of destitution without these funds? If your answer is no, then you’ll discover that life is not that bad off as is. Answering these definitive questions will help to paint the reality that may be skewed in your mind. However, if your answers to those questions are yes then find comfort in knowing that the Lord will provide and hear your prayers. Always remember that your God will always be by your side.

No money for movies. No money for dinners out. No money for anything but essentials like food, gas, and toilet paper. Not exactly the dream life, is it?

But it’s the life millions of Americans face. Foreclosures, unemployment, and stock market drops were once topics for news headlines. Now those topics fill our dinner conversations and our prayer requests.

I know what it’s like to pray about overwhelming financial challenges. In my husband’s first years as a pastor, our house payment gobbled half his income. I didn’t expect riches when I married a minister, but I also didn’t anticipate 13-16 percent interest rates on a starter home. After our tithe and a sacrificial gift to our church’s building program, we lived on 30 percent of my husband’s small salary.

During those ground beef and tuna years, I learned that lean financial times call for more than strict budgets and financial discipline. Tough times call for tough prayers—prayers that move us past frustration and helplessness to seeing God’s power and glory in our daily lives. We can replace panic with confidence when we focus our prayers on these four requests.

Pray for Clarity

Every time I hear Suze Orman say “De-nied” to a caller’s ridiculous spending request, I recognize the value of clarity. Many personal finance gurus encourage us to hold our financial records before a mirror so we can see our true monetary situation. Without a clear picture, we won’t know how to balance our income and expenses. We won’t make the hard choices needed for economic survival.

But like it or not, our money and jobs are entwined with our views of life and self. And that link makes it difficult to assess our circumstances objectively. My money problems often trigger a storm cloud of conflicting feelings—fear, pride, and anger—that block a clear vision of all the issues involved. Prayer helps me deal with my churning emotions before they skew my decisions and perspective.

On one level, my friend Amy felt a great peace when her husband lost his job. On another level, she felt angry about the circumstances surrounding Mike’s layoff. Her irritation with union politics triggered heart tantrums as frustration battled faith for control. When she couldn’t stop the tears, she finally hit her knees.

Earlier that week Amy had studied the confrontation between King Hezekiah of Judah and King Sennacherib of Assyria described in Isaiah 36-37. Desperate for God’s help, Hezekiah laid Sennacherib’s threatening letter before the Lord and prayed.

Unique requests to replace panic with confidence

No money for movies. No money for dinners out. No money for anything but essentials like food, gas, and toilet paper. Not exactly the dream life, is it?

But it’s the life millions of Americans face. Foreclosures, unemployment, and stock market drops were once topics for news headlines. Now those topics fill our dinner conversations and our prayer requests.

I know what it’s like to pray about overwhelming financial challenges. In my husband’s first years as a pastor, our house payment gobbled half his income. I didn’t expect riches when I married a minister, but I also didn’t anticipate 13-16 percent interest rates on a starter home. After our tithe and a sacrificial gift to our church’s building program, we lived on 30 percent of my husband’s small salary.

During those ground beef and tuna years, I learned that lean financial times call for more than strict budgets and financial discipline. Tough times call for tough prayers—prayers that move us past frustration and helplessness to seeing God’s power and glory in our daily lives. We can replace panic with confidence when we focus our prayers on these four requests.

Pray for Clarity

Every time I hear Suze Orman say “De-nied” to a caller’s ridiculous spending request, I recognize the value of clarity. Many personal finance gurus encourage us to hold our financial records before a mirror so we can see our true monetary situation. Without a clear picture, we won’t know how to balance our income and expenses. We won’t make the hard choices needed for economic survival.

But like it or not, our money and jobs are entwined with our views of life and self. And that link makes it difficult to assess our circumstances objectively. My money problems often trigger a storm cloud of conflicting feelings—fear, pride, and anger—that block a clear vision of all the issues involved. Prayer helps me deal with my churning emotions before they skew my decisions and perspective.

On one level, my friend Amy felt a great peace when her husband lost his job. On another level, she felt angry about the circumstances surrounding Mike’s layoff. Her irritation with union politics triggered heart tantrums as frustration battled faith for control. When she couldn’t stop the tears, she finally hit her knees.

Earlier that week Amy had studied the confrontation between King Hezekiah of Judah and King Sennacherib of Assyria described in Isaiah 36-37. Desperate for God’s help, Hezekiah laid Sennacherib’s threatening letter before the Lord and prayed.

Pray for Creativity

I know of only two ways to have more money: earn more or spend less. Because my sons were preschoolers when our money was tightest, I decided to focus my energy on reducing expenses. Only one problem: I was flying blind. I wasn’t a clever cook, an accomplished seamstress, a skillful crafter, or a home repair expert. I don’t come up with my own ideas; I copy other people’s ideas.

But while praying one day, I realized I didn’t need to be ingenuous to solve my budget challenges. I serve the Source of all creativity, I thought. I worship the God who created zebras and armadillos and wallabies. If the Lord can design a rhinoceros, he has more than enough creativity to share with me.

So I asked God to share. Instead of relying on my own abilities, I sought God’s input on every part of my budget. I didn’t stop talking to friends or scanning magazines for hints, but I invited the Lord’s feedback on the best options. No surprise that he showered me with clever ideas. I organized fun-filled birthday parties—complete with customized cakes, games, and gift bags—for $10 or less. I made summer play shorts from my boys’ worn-out sweat pants. I turned a store’s grand opening into a family outing with free hot dogs.

My money-saving projects will never be featured on HGTV or The Martha Stewart Show, but they worked for my family. And every creative success, no matter how insignificant to others, fueled my passion for prayer and my respect for God’s imagination.

Pray for Connections

As a young girl, I loved connect-the-dots puzzles. I was always surprised to watch a collection of random spots give way to a bunny or butterfly as my pencil moved from one dot to another.

I’m convinced God is the real-life Master of connecting the dots because prayer connects his resources with our needs through other people. When my son Scott was a toddler, I received a box of badly-needed boy’s clothes from a childhood friend. What prompted Stephanie’s gift? My prayers and a series of conversations three states away. My mom talked to Stephanie’s mom about an upcoming visit to see my son. After Stephanie’s mom mentioned the trip to her, Stephanie remembered the clothes her son had outgrown. A few weeks later my son had a new wardrobe. But the story doesn’t end there. The boxes kept coming for almost eight years. I don’t think I bought anything other than underwear, socks, and pajamas until Scott hit late elementary school.

Pray for Contentment

Just as earthquakes expose weaknesses in buildings that appear stable, financial stress can expose spiritual weaknesses. In my case, it forced me to grapple with my attitudes.

I found praying for contentment much harder than praying for God’s provision, because contentment encompasses more than my view of possessions. How did I accept changing my lifestyle? Did my gifts and clothes and vacations affect the way I viewed myself? Was I willing to use God’s dictionary to define the difference between wants and needs? Did I really believe Christ had given me everything I needed to live a godly life as it says in 2 Peter 1:3?

The apostle Paul said, “I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want” (Philippians 4:12). Notice the key phrase: “I have learned . . .” Although hardship enrolls everyone in Contentment 101, that doesn’t mean we get the same homework as the girl in the next row.

Some of us learn contentment when job losses alter our family dynamics. Barb’s husband responded to his termination as though life pinned a scarlet F for “Failure” on his chest. Never one to let bad times color her mood, my sanguine girlfriend struggles to accept the gloomy cloud now hanging over her home.

Others learn contentment with God’s timing. Stacey spent 12 months on the unemployment list. She polished her resume; she sent out applications. She aced interviews and waited for security clearances. She did everything by the book, but she still waited a year for the Lord to provide a new job. I don’t know any Christian who enjoys waiting on God’s timing. But as Barb said about her husband’s job search, “Just because I don’t see anything happening doesn’t mean God isn’t doing anything.”

Let’s face it. Living paycheck to paycheck can be scary. I’ve given God the “I can’t do this!” ultimatum more than once. At times, I’ve had a matching complaint for every prayer request on my list.

But I’ve also celebrated the marvelous adventure of moment-by-moment dependence on Christ’s resources. I’ve tested God’s faithfulness in my prayers and my pantry. And I’ve discovered the Father’s plan for my life is never limited by the balance of my bank account.

Less money doesn’t mean fewer blessings. Less money doesn’t equal less joy. But prayerlessness does. That’s why we pray on.

There has been an increase in end-time discussions as the time of the Lord draws nearer. Many are asking what they can do to prepare financially.

Proper preparation on any issue starts with having a firm belief in God and His Son, Jesus Christ, who promise to never leave or forsake us. This assurance allows believers to walk in the knowledge of all of God’s promises and know all things work together for the good of those who love Him.

My research indicates there are events unfolding that point to a complete meltdown or collapse of all man-made financial constructs existing today.

There is no doubt in my mind that the world will experience a repeat of the banking crisis of 2008, and probably worse. Chaos and confusion may easily ensue if we are not prepared. Markets, currencies and stocks will all be shaken to the core as the world struggles to separate debt and value.

No greater evidence exists to support my position than the events in Greece on Monday, June 29. Greeks had to stand in line in an attempt to get their money out of closed banks. Rumors that Greece could leave the Euro and attempt to print its way out of excessive debt has led to increased talk of default and hyperinflation of the drachma, the nation’s currency.

That is why the International Monetary Fund and the Bank of International Settlements, along with all the central banks of the major countries, are working feverishly on issues like total loss absorbency capacity and systemically important financial institutions.

In layman’s terms, these issues determine which central and private banks will survive a crash and which won’t. Unfortunately, there is a lot of fear mongering from sellers of survival food, gas masks and gold. There are even some folks building underground structures to survive a perceived Armageddon.

I don’t see this crisis unfolding quite that way, and I take a lot of criticism for not playing into the doom and gloom of the day. I do, however, see a day coming when we will be forced to bail out our banks. Our money will be held as an asset of the bank, and we will be handed a bank stock or I.O.U. This is very similar to what occurred in Greece and Cyprus.

Keep in mind that the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation signed an agreement with the Bank of England outlining such a plan. Recent actions of the G-20 also state your bank account is no longer considered money. Therefore, regulations requiring FDIC insurance no longer apply.

So how should one prepare their finances? A powerful principle found most successful is diversification: “Give a portion to seven, or even eight; for you do not know what calamity may happen on the earth” (Eccl. 11:2).

Have some money in stocks and land as well as gold and silver coins for liquidity and to maintain buying power.

Perhaps even invest in some cash and bonds—but do not put all your eggs in one basket.

In every past crisis, a currency of acceptability emerged during the chaos. In Russia, the ruble died and the U.S. dollar filled the void until stability returned. The same occurred in South American countries like Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela when the currency collapsed. The world didn’t stop; it just changed the currency employed for the exchange of goods and services.

It’s sad that I can’t promise the dollar will prevail this time. With many countries now taking each other’s currencies, I suspect soon the U.S. dollar will lose its reserve currency status.

The added pressure of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries now accepting direct payments in other currencies seals its fate.

This is why having gold and silver in your portfolio is critical. It will be exchangeable in the currency of acceptability. Gold and silver are universally recognized as money, from the towers of Wall Street to the markets of small villages. Gold is money. It is the ultimate currency and, therefore, essential in troubled times.

I have no doubt tough times lay ahead for the world and especially for our nation. We must learn to live within our means and get back to principles that historically have proved solid.

  1. It’s not your business—it’s God’s business (Ps. 24:1). He can do whatever he wants with it. Giving up this kind of control seems ridiculous to our non-Christian friends and even scary to many who are. Yet by totally dedicating and giving your business to God, He can then begin His work in and through you—the work you were eternally destined to do.
  1. Getting rich is not the goal—bringing glory to God is (Ps. 34:3). Gods want us to earn a profit—even demands it (Matt. 25:14-30), but not at the loss of all else, including family, relationships, brand image and customer loyalty.
  1. The business is not your first priority—your relationship with God is (Lev. 26:1). Since we entrepreneurs are wired to create, produce, market, sell and be the first-in/last-out, it is easy for us to allow the business to dominate our lives, even at the expense of our time with our Creator.
  1. Build your business mission to align with your personal mission (Jer. 1:5). God wired you to be you. So when you align your unique talents, gifts, skills, interests and passion into your business mission, you are walking closer to a fully integrated and rewarding life, both for your business and for your family.
  1. Take your hands off the wheel (Prov. 20:24). Allowing Jesus to take the wheel is a both joy and a relief. This is where you must have the faith to allow Him to steer your business wherever He likes. It does not mean you do nothing and wait for Him, but rather you do everything you sense He wants you to do with excellence.
  1. God’s timing is indeed always right, always best (Is. 55:8-9). So many times I have pushed and prodded to get everything done on my schedule and in my time. If you are following No. 5, it is easier to rest in His timing rather than yours.
  1. God’s idea of “success” may not be yours (Josh. 1:8) God is all about you being a success. As I often write in my blog, His concept of success, its principles, purpose and people bringing glory to Him, is in direct opposition to the general marketplace and its obsession with profit, prestige, power and bringing glory to yourself. Don’t confuse the two.
  2. God can turn your mistakes into triumphs (2 Sam. 12:24). I am so thankful for this. So fret not if you try something in good faith toward fulfilling your mission, and it fails (Phil. 4:6-7). Learn from it and keep moving.
  1. He’s always there ready to listen and respond (Ps. 46:10). If you are unsure of the next step, task, decision, then (a) study His word, (b) seek the godly counsel of others and (c) pray #BeLed. He’ll tell you what next to do.
  1. Give it all you’ve got, and leave the results to God (Josh. 14:14). This is one of the main themes from the wonderful football movie, Facing the Giants. Just like Coach Taylor tells his team, when you give it your best, then God will grant the results He deems appropriate, which are often far more than you imagined (Eph. 3:20). Give it your best and follow the 10 lessons.

“Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus. I ask You to forgive me for all my sins and the sins of my forefathers. Let all transgressions and iniquities be cleansed by the blood of Jesus

“Right now, I break every spirit of poverty on my life in the name of Jesus. No devourer will destroy the fruit of my labor. I break every curse of failure and lack in the name of Jesus

“I repent for any breaking of covenant with Your tithe and offerings, LORD. I ask and receive forgiveness for disobedience and touching anything that is holy to You in the name of Jesus.

“Let the rod of iron fall on any strange money that has passed through me in the name of Jesus.

“I decree and declare, I am blessed of God!
